I never thought I’d say this, but I’m on a podcast! Last week, I received a message on Instagram from Daniel of Emigrant’s Life Podcast, asking if I wanted to talk about my au pair experience on his show. He had seen my Instagram video on being an au pair, and wanted to hear more about it.
I responded that I wasn’t technically an emigrant, since I haven’t permanently moved to Italy (yet haha). But Daniel said he thought that working as an au pair could be a good way to move abroad, at least to start. His podcast is all about providing resources and stories of fellow emigrants, “stories of people who left their countries to chase a better life.”
So I agreed and here we are, one week later, with a podcast episode!
It was very fun to record and just have a conversation about the whole process of becoming an au pair, and what it’s like to live with a host family. I know I haven’t talked much about it on the blog yet, so I’m hoping to get more content up with useful information in case anyone is curious about it. Being an au pair in Rome was truly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, so I am happy to share details!
Daniel added a lot of useful information and links in the show notes, but if you’re curious to learn more, start with the article I wrote on RomeAbroad’s blog about 7 Tips for Future Travelers to Italy. RomeAbroad is the agency I used when I moved to Rome. Also feel free to watch the IGTV I made, which covers the basics of au pairing, and of course listen to my podcast episode on Emigrant’s Life!
Thank you again to Daniel for having me on the show, hopefully there will be a part two recorded in the future! If you’re interested or curious about moving to another country, check out all of the episodes that have been recorded already for inspiration. The cool graphics on this post were created by Daniel, and shared on his Instagram.
