Where to eat in Paris

See also, Paris travel guide.

On my next trip to Paris, I would go back to all of these places! Some truly French, others pleasingly culturally different. Make time for lingering in Angelina, or visiting the creperie for an afternoon treat. Eating in France is part of the joy of traveling there, and the atmosphere matters just as much as the food.

Cultural Tip for France: waiters in France are stereotypically rude, and while this can be somewhat true, they really appreciate if you greet them with “Bonjour.” That will start your whole interaction on a good note, and they’ll be a little more friendly to you!

Most photos in this post are iPhone photos, since I think it’s better to be in the moment while eating, rather than trying to get that perfect table shot (though I’ve been that person, too). Please enjoy the raw quality of the quick snapshots before I dug in. Or after I took a bite–looking at you La Palette croissant.

La Cidrerie du Marais  4 Rue Sevigne

Crepes and (alcoholic) cider are a must in Paris. There is no limit to crepe consumption in this city! For a step above a street vendor, try this small creperie for limitless crepe concoctions that might have you skipping your next meal.

Angelina 226 Rue de Rivoli

This is the cafe that Coco Chanel used to sketch in during the afternoons…gorgeous and has the MOST AMAZING hot chocolate of your life. Not to give too much away because it’s something to experience for yourself, but the chocolate is served in a saucer with a small side dish of whipped creme.

Laduree Several locations.

An obvious but delicious choice. The Marie Antoinette flavored macaroon was good 😉

La Palette 43 Rue de Seine

Cafe in the Latin Quarter where Hemingway and Picasso used to hang. Best croissant in Europe, and the atmosphere is as though you’ve stepped back in time.

Blend Hamburger Gourmet 44 Rue d’Argout

If you are craving a burger go here!! Very hip, great vegetarian burger option, and yummy fries. A good lunch stop.

Ravioli Chinois Nord Est  11 Rue Civiali

One euro dumplings! It’s super busy, the menu is all French, and you have to fight for a table. But, a delicious and fun spot, and a nice French man might just help you find a table. 🙂 Felt like I was truly experiencing Paris the night I went here (while eating Chinese, imagine that!).

Berthillon 29-31 Rue Saint-Louis en l’Île

Located conveniently close to Sainte Chapelle, a delicious ice cream stop on a sunny day. Considered by many as the best ice cream in the world!

Eric Kayser Several locations.

Best baguettes in Paris. Enough said!! Scout one out then have a fine picnic in a park. (But, first–a photo shoot with the baguette)

L’As Du Fallafal  34 Rue des Rosiers

A MUST if you like falafel. This place is famous for it and they have their system down! Don’t go to the place across the street, wait in line for this one.

As Julia Child always said so well, bon appetit!
