2020 has arrived and I am back on the blog. If you’re new around here, I just returned to the states for the holidays after living in Rome for three months. During that time I blogged a little and lived a lot. Now that I’m back in Minnesota, basically in the arctic tundra right now, I plan to share more about what I did in Italy last fall and the travels and the life lessons and how much I grew and the people I met and the Italian I learned and everything. It was better than I could have ever imagined and I have no regrets. Now just to figure out how I can get back again…
If you’ve ever learned a second language and been fully immersed, then you may be able to relate to how hard English is once you’re so submerged in a second language. Italian is still first in my brain right now and I was definitely “code switching” a bit (when you insert a word in a different language into a sentence without realizing it). It’s also interesting when you spend time with people who know English as their second or third language, so they don’t speak it like you do. Then it starts to rub off on you and you can’t remember how English works. Anyways, I’m going on too long now but I wanted to apologize if it takes some time to get back to thinking and writing fluently in English again.
Just writing this short post has me so excited, because writing is one of those things that I’ve always loved and been decent at, so I can’t wait to get back to it. I think writing will be a big part of my future (which I’m still dreaming up) and so I’m glad I can at least write for this blog to share with the world.
If you have any specific posts you’d like to see from me in the new year, let me know in the comments. My head is swimming with ideas, and I can’t wait to get them down and publish more for all of you.
buon anno! xxMaggie
