Simple and quick apartment updates

Since I get the itch to redecorate at the least every two weeks, I’ve found some sure-fire ways to make a difference quickly and affordably in how my space looks and feels. I also love to change it around with the seasons, to make my apartment livable and functional, cozy in the winter and airy in the summer. The following are the tried and true updates I make every so often…

Rearrange bedroom or living room layout.

I often find myself doing this at two in the morning, God knows why! But this update is the one that will have the biggest impact if you’re looking for a lot of change. Bedrooms and living rooms have the most flexibility with furniture, although I’ve found most rooms only have a couple options for bed and couch placement based on windows and doors. So, I like to rearrange my reading chairs in my room and the side tables I keep my books and diffuser on. In the living room, I like to try out different groupings, especially if I’m entertaining!

Switch rugs around.

I don’t have too many rugs to play around with, but I like switching the smaller ones around. I also found once I moved furniture around, adding a rug to a new place (like one side of my bed) has created a cozy corner that didn’t exist before.

Hang new art or rearrange current art.

I do this very often in my own apartment! When I travel I love picking up new watercolors or prints, and those often find their way on to my gallery wall. I love switching out the art and quotes around my room because I find if I leave a certain piece in a spot too long, I forget it’s there. Rearranging keeps everything fresh and inspiring. I’ll be doing a separate post on affordable art, coming soon!

Move objects around while dusting.

When I was younger I would do this almost monthly (guess I’ve always been an object collector, hah!). So nowadays whenever I dust my dresser top and other tabletops in my room I mix my objects up. Just like the art, this keeps things fresh and gives me new subjects to contemplate.
